The Official Legend of Blue Apache "True Blue Geronimo" |
|
Sometimes people ask us where the name Blue Apache comes from. The blue part simply comes from a reference to Australia – being ‘true blue’, as this distinguishes us from other outsourcing solutions that also make use of off-shoring. Our base is in Melbourne, as is our service desk. Our Australian presence allows us to visit customer sites, working closely with the on-site team and have a better understanding of our customers than an off-shore team would and could.
When a young Chris Marshall finished his studies he spent some time over in North America. There he met a descendant of the famous Apache warrior known as Geronimo and learnt the story of this noble warrior and the proud Apache people.
Geronimo is known for his many powers including being able to survive being shot, to walk without leaving tracks, telekinesis and telepathy, and his courage inspired US paratroopers to shout his name before jumping. At times it feels like we need these powers in IT, needing to also keep our heads when under pressure, and Apache also being the name of a popular web server technology (in their case a “patchy” server) the name Blue Apache was chosen.
So in tongue-in-cheek, where you need some “Indians” to do your IT work for you, and they may need to do some of it on site, you get some “Blue Apache Indians”, or Blue Apache to do it for you. Whilst we are not the proud and noble Apache people, in everything we do we strive to achieve the appearance of invisibly updating services, “magically” turning on and off servers and viewing their screens without being there, knowing when our customers are experiencing difficulties before they call, recovering from disaster, and to keeping our heads under pressure. |
