Swiss data backup specialist Veeam has announced Availability Suite 9 boasting new features that the company asserts can streamline data backup storage management.
Set to ship later this year, Veeam Availability Suite 9 software will feature the company’s Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository technology, that is designed to help businesses better control increasing data protection requirements while making the most of their existing storage investments.
He explained that the new capability “overcomes legacy backup storage management challenges by creating a single, scalable backup repository from a collection of heterogeneous storage devices. This effectively creates a software-defined abstraction layer through which backup storage can be more efficiently managed and utilised, radically simplifying backup storage and backup job management.”
Veeam estimates that Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository enables businesses to increase the effective capacity of existing storage by thirty percent, at a minimum. The technology also works with a variety of arrays and storage systems from different vendors without sacrificing advanced functionality like data deduplication, the company claims.
“Thanks to the scale-out repository, customers will be able to mix and match different storage systems – any backup target supported by Veeam – Windows or Linux servers with local or DAS storage, network shares and even de-duplicating storage appliances,” Dell’Oca said.
Performance-wise, the solution provides brisk backup and recovery speeds with intelligent data placement policies. Administrators can assign full and incremental backup files to separate storage systems, marshalling the I/O of multiple devices for a single backup job.
Veeam’s new Unlimited Scale-out Backup Repository should simplify backup target storage, which should ease administration while providing flexibility to backup and virtualisation administrators who have more strategic tasks to do than managing their underlying storage pool.
